Atala Masjid

Atala Masjid
Mosque built by Sultan Ibrahim Shah Sharqi (1401-1440) at Jaunpur. Built out of materials taken from demolished temples, the Atala Masjid is the most interesting and ornate Sharqi monument. It represents a curious blending of Hindu and Muslim traditions. The arches are marked by their severe simplicity. These form a link in the evolution of the favorite form under the Mughals.
